Santa Monica Setup Guide

2–4 playersby Josh WoodAlderac Entertainment Group (AEG)

Setup Steps

  1. Create card display: Shuffle the Feature Cards to form a face-down deck, and deal out 2 rows of 4 cards each face-up to create the display (back row and front row). Place the remaining deck above the back row of the display.
  2. Select sand dollar actions: Randomly select and place 2 of the Sand Dollar Tiles to the left of the display. These will be the 2 Sand Dollar Actions available in this game.
  3. Select scoring objective: Randomly select 1 of the 3 Scoring Objective Tiles and place it face-up to the right of the display. For your first game, use the blue scoring objective tile.
  4. Create supply piles: Place the Locals, Tourists, Sand Dollars, Sand Dollar Multipliers, and Footprint Tokens in piles near the display so that all players can reach them.
  5. Determine start player: The player who has most recently visited a beach becomes the Starting Player and receives the Start Player Token.
  6. Draft starting tiles: Randomly draw Starting Feature Tiles equal to the number of players and place them on the table. In reverse player order (beginning with the last player and moving counter-clockwise), each player chooses a starting feature tile.
  7. Distribute starting resources: Give each player their starting feature tile's Placement Bonuses (sand dollars and VIPs), and a Reference Card if they would like one.
  8. Place special tokens: The last player in turn order places the Food Truck Token under any of the 4 display columns of their choice. The Foodie Token begins 2 spaces (cards) away.
  9. Begin game: The starting player begins the game.
